FMCSA seeks comments on cardiovasular exemption requests from 15 drivers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is requesting comments on requests from 15  drivers seeking exemptions from a physical qualification standard [49 CFR 391.41(b)(4)] that disqualifies them from driving commercial motor vehicles.

Each driver has a cardiac condition being treated with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. If granted, an exemption would allow them to operate CMVs for up to two years in interstate commerce. To submit a comment, refer to the April 21 Federal Register notice.

Last week the FMCSA invited comments on requests for exemptions from CMV drivers with narcolepsy, a sleep disorder.
