Fedex Executive Nominated to Head Osha

The Trump administration has nominated Scott A. Mugno to be Assistant Secretary of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health.

Mugno is vice president for safety, sustainability and vehicle maintenance at FedEx Ground in Pittsburgh, Pa.  He was previously the managing director for FedEx Express corporate safety, health and fire protection in Memphis, Tenn. His responsibilities have included safety and health program development.

Prior to FedEx, Mugno was a division counsel at Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Waste Isolation Division and deputy staff judge advocate for the Eastern Region U.S. Army Military Traffic Management Command. He held other legal positions in the U.S. Army JAG Corps at the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga., and in small, private practice law firms before joining the U.S. Army JAG Corps. He is a graduate of Washburn University School of Law, Topeka, Kan., and St. John’s University, Jamaica, NY.

If confirmed, Mugno would take over from Loren Sweatt, who has served as acting assistant secretary of labor since July 24. Sweatt is the agency’s deputy assistant secretary of labor and President Trump’s first OSHA appointee. Mugno is expected to appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee as part of the nomination process.
