U.S. Surgeon General Recognizes Value of Worker Well-being

In The Value of Worker Well-being,” an article published in Public Health Reports, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, M.D., M.P.H., recognizes the important relationship between work and health, or total worker health (TWH). Dr. Adams recommends that employers implement TWH concepts more broadly to improve employee health and business outcomes. A TWH approach recognizes that work is a social determinant of health. It is consistent with recommendations of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and it aligns with WorkCare’s mission to protect and promote employee health across the care continuum. In a blog posted today, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) explains how it supports the development of TWH programs through its Office of Total Worker Health, funded Centers of Excellence and affiliate relationships.
